Creative for a cause: Women's right to unrestricted healthcare access
Role: Art director, Graphic Designer, Copywriter
With the overturning of Roe v Wade, I believe it is necessary to keep people informed and aware of their rights. My project is targeted specifically to those who need to learn more about restrictions and barriers placed on women's access to healthcare. Barriers create delayed care, medical complications, and avoidable deaths.
Process:
I specifically chose to use inclusive imagery of the uterus due to the fact that not only women have uteruses and to communicate the controversy surrounding reproductive rights. The pink colors that are synonymous with femininity pop well with the deep blacks to draw in the viewer. I chose Helvetica Neue and Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro for their simple clean readability and strong presence. Healthcare information needs to be accessible and easy to read. The cross formed by the jail cells symbolizes that reproduction falls under healthcare.
Iterations:
Through my iterations I explored color, type arrangement, and imagery. I wanted to make the design legible and impactful. One of my key elements I wanted to include was the healthcare cross, which I decided to feature prominently around the uterus. Without the text, I wanted the audience to know immediately that this poster talked about reproductive healthcare rights through the design. The sister poster I wanted to have the same feel but more focused on typography.
