I chose to design the article from Psychology Today titled “Why that song is stuck in your head" because I love music. This year alone I have been to 5 concert ranging genres from Guns N' Roses to Jonas Brothers and more. I was fascinated by how the author talked about the science behind ear worms, or 20 second looping clips of music that gets stuck in your head, and how they help improve your memory.

The first thing I did for this project was highlight the most important information and brainstorm imagery for it. I wanted to experiment with multiple mediums and colors to capture the whole experience one has when listening to music. I played with scanners, illustration, printmaking, and digital design. I chose to rename the magazine spread because I wanted the title to hook the reader in. I felt that a shorter catchy title did the trick and I matched my imagery to it.
Sketches and elements:
I created these using music sheets on a scanner, paper on a scanner, and hand drawn & carved printmaking stamps.
Previous versions:
I experimented with including paper texture but ultimately removed it because it made the text harder to read. I spent sometime making sure that the brain imagery tied into both sides of the spread. In the end, I used the color pink to tie the whole spread together.
